if you think that buffy summers tosses out i love yous to make people feel better or as some kind of gratitude/farewell thing you don’t understand her character at all

#no really there is an ~episode about how difficult it is for her to say that #there is an entire arc with riley where she is incapable of saying it #and there are many many episodes in s7 about how she owes spike nothing and she is v. self-aware re: that #so there is no way that buffy would ~lie~ to spike in chosen #especially about love #and there’s no way with their history that she meant that she loved him as a friend #so fanwank all you want but all you’re doing is bending the character to suit your anti-shipping lbr
